Commodities Decline, Stocks Slump, Treasuries Gain, Dollar Strengthens - U.S Daily Markets Wrap
Stocks decline led by decline in mid cap and health care sector stocks, while 10-year treasury yields decrease, dollar strengthens, and crude oil declines
U.S. stocks fell by 0.5% today fueled by a 1.0% decline in mid cap stocks and a 2.5% decline in health care stocks. The S&P 500 Index is currently down 19.6% year-to-date, and down 11.8% over the past 12 months. The Dow Jones Industrial Average is currently down 14.5% year-to-date, and down 10.2% over the past 12 months. Elsewhere, commodities fell 0.5% with gold falling 1.5%, crude oil falling 0.7% and copper falling 2.6%. The yield on 10-year Treasuries is 2.96%, while the dollar strengthened by 0.7% against a basket of other currencies. Meanwhile, investment grade corporate bonds fell by 0.6%, and high yield bonds fell by 0.2%.
