Dollar Strengthens, Stocks Slump, Commodities Rise, Treasuries Fall - U.S Daily Markets Wrap
Stocks decline led by decline in large cap and consumer discretionary sector stocks, while 10-year treasury yields decrease, dollar strengthens, and crude oil gains
U.S. stocks fell by 1.6% today fueled by a 0.4% decline in large cap stocks and a 3.6% decline in consumer discretionary stocks. The S&P 500 Index is currently down 17.1% year-to-date, and down 3.9% over the past 12 months. The Dow Jones Industrial Average is currently down 11.9% year-to-date, and down 5.5% over the past 12 months. Elsewhere, commodities climbed 0.6% with gold falling 1.5%, crude oil rising 1.0% and copper falling 2.8%. The yield on 10-year Treasuries is 2.99%, while the dollar strengthened by 0.9% against a basket of other currencies. Meanwhile, investment grade corporate bonds rose by 0.0%, and high yield bonds fell by 0.0%.
