Product safety recalls rose by 33% last year but injuries and deaths still common: report

• From carbon-monoxide-emitting gas stoves to treadmills, the number of product recalls is the highest it’s been since 2016.
• But before those recalls happen, or even afterward, scores of people get injured or killed annually by faulty gadgets, devices and toys, the U.S.
• Consumer product recalls were up 33% from last year over the year before.
• But consumers may not always listen and companies may not respond to safety threats quickly enough, according to a new analysis from the USPIRG Education Fund.
