The National Arts Centre Orchestra is a Canadian orchestra based in Ottawa, Ontario led by Music Director Alexander Shelley. The NAC Orchestra's primary concert venue is the eponymous National Arts Centre. Since its inception, the Orchestra has commissioned more than 90 works, mostly from Canadian composers. The NAC Orchestra releases two recordings per year. The Orchestra has visited more than 125 cities in Canada and more than 130 cities internationally in its 50-year history, including a coast-to-coast Canadian tour in 1999 and again in 2016. Most recently in May 2019, the NAC Orchestra completed a major European tour, performing and delivering education events five countries in 7 cities and.

Bernard Lubat is a French jazz drummer, pianist, singer, percussionist, vibraphonist, and accordionist. Lubat grew up in a musical family and he received formal training at the Bordeaux Conservatory and the Paris Conservatory. He worked with Jef Gilson in 1964-1965 and was a vocalist with Les Double Six in 1965; later in the decade he drummed for the Paris Jazz All Stars, Roger Guerin, and the Swingle Singers. He also worked as a session musician, for Hubert Rostaing among others. He began a long-term association with Michel Portal in 1969 and played increasingly in avant-garde idioms, though he continued working in more traditional styles with Dexter Gordon, Stan Getz, and Eddy Louiss, among others. He was awarded the Prix Django Reinhardt in 1972.

The National Arts Centre is a Canadian centre for the performing arts located in Ottawa, Ontario, between Elgin Street and the Rideau Canal. The National Arts Centre was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 2006.

John Gunnar Rafael Storgårds is a Finnish violinist and conductor. Storgårds studied violin with Esther Raitio and Jouko Ignatius at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, and continued his violin studies with Chaim Taub in Israel. He was a founding member of the Avanti! Chamber Orchestra. After experience leading orchestras from the front desk of the violin section, his interest in conducting increased after an invitation to conduct the Helsinki University Symphony Orchestra. He subsequently returned to the Sibelius Academy from 1993-1997 to study conducting with Jorma Panula and Eri Klas.

Shelley was the unanimous winner of the 2005 Leeds Conductors Competition. From 2009 to 2017 he was Chief Conductor of the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra. He is also Artistic Director of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen’s ECHO and Deutsche Gründerpreis winning "Zukunftslabor".
